I Love/Hate Google

Even before listened to Jeremy’s message about Google today, I’ve been learning how to deal with the 800 pound gorilla.

In a previous post, I mentioned that I was able to pick up some traffic for cheap by buying a set of keywords related to a fairly large social networking site designed for tween girls. Within a few days, the traffic went from .25 a click to an asking price of $10 on the Adwords system.

One of our sites was also scoring a PR 2 on important keywords within a couple of weeks of launch. Four days after I dumped Adwords from my BANS sites, that site disappeared from page 2 and has yet to make a decent comeback.

So I’m going to reverse my previous decision and put Adwords back on my BANS sites and include them on the new sites I’m setting up under SoManyBlogs.com.

I’m just six weeks into this so I’m still learning how to swim and one of my goals for the month is to achieve a symbiotic relationship with Google.

If anyone has advice on this front, please feel free to comment.

  1. How To Rule The Word said:

Just a comment on Google raising your min CPC from .25 to $10. Google determines your minimum bid by the landing page content. When you get spidered, usually several days after you launch the campaign, the spider reads the content to determine if it is relevant to the search term. If content is minimal or abstract Google will bid jam you. You might try revising the content or the ad text. If you are bidding on a competitor or another websites name, then most likely Google is determining that your site is not relating to theirs and your selling something completely opposite for what the keyword is being searched for.
