Accidents Happen

I’m not trying to plug any particular site today, but I did stumble upon a useful bit of information today and decided to take advantage of it.

I was doing some competitive research today an a new, and interesting, social networking site for tween girls. The site has over 13 million members and is growing at a rate of about 20,000 every day.

What I discovered is that nobody is buying keywords related to this site. Not one.

Since this demographic fits nicely into the same demographic of one of my sites, I immediately logged into Adwords to do a little test.

I added the site name with a few different variations, some other keywords that would work for the site, and a modest $5 per day budget.

Within about six hours, the campaign sent 22 new visitors to my site and achieved a great CTR of .77%.

What can you learn?

  1. Keep your eyes open. This is not a niche that I’m familiar with but I saw some potential.
  2. Seize the moment. Don’t ever wait. Someone out there will take the opportunity if you don’t.
  3. Tests are cheap. Spend a few dollars to play your hunch.

Time will tell if the leads from the tween site are profitable.

Have you ever been in a situation like this?
